COMETS Faculty of Letters Universitas Warmadewa Holds English Training Program Outing
Community of English Students (COMETS) Faculty of Letters Universitas Warmadewa (FS Unwar) held an English Language Training Outing Program at SD Negeri 1, 2 and 3 Sangeh, Saturday (11/3/23). The activity with the theme “Playful Ways to Learn English” involved 69 4th semester students of FS Unwar.
The event was attended by the Dean of FS Unwar, Deputy Dean I FS Unwar, Deputy Dean III FS Unwar, Head of English Literature Department, Structural Officials and Lecturers of FS Unwar, Head of Sangeh Village, Principal of SD N 1, 2 and 3 Sangeh, BEM FS Unwar, and students participating in the outing program.
Committee Chairperson, Nuri Ananta said the Outing Program is an annual event that serves as a platform for 4th semester students of the English Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Letters, Warmadewa University. This program allows students to practice English and teaching skills, develop working relationships with others (teamwork), as well as build self-confidence of the students themselves.
Vice Dean III of FS Unwar, Dr. I Nyoman Muliana, M.Hum., expressed his gratitude to the Head of Sangeh Village and his staff as well as the Principals of State Elementary Schools 1, 2 and 3 Sangeh Village for allowing FS Unwar to return to conduct outing program activities in Sangeh Village. This activity was realized in the form of English language training for English Literature Study Program students in elementary schools in Sangeh Village. This activity was also carried out as a form of realization of the English Literature study program curriculum to achieve a graduate profile, namely as an English instructor at a language learning institution. This Outing Program is said to be routinely scheduled every year based on the collaboration between FS Unwar and Sangeh Village as a fostered village. Outing program is an off-campus activity of the English Literature Study Program of FS Unwar which is filled with teaching activities. Students practice teaching science to students in elementary school with the aim that students can directly gain experience in teaching.
The Dean of FS Unwar, Prof. Dr. I Nyoman Kardana, M.Hum., said that through this outing program, FS Unwar touched elementary schools by providing English language learning with the hope that students would have an interest in English so that in the future they would be more motivated to learn English and also be useful for the development of Sangeh village. In the future, if Sangeh Village has seen the motivation of the community and the younger generation to learn English, FS Unwar is said to be targeting other villages that have not been touched in the next few years so that this activity is not merely a field trip but can provide benefits to the village itself.
Perbekel Desa Sangeh, I Made Werdiana in his speech gave appreciation for this activity. He admitted that he was very proud of the students and thanked them for conducting this outing program regularly at elementary schools in Sangeh Village. The Perbekel of Sangeh Village hopes that the relationship between FS Unwar and Sangeh Village will remain warmly established. Not only that, he also really hopes that outing program activities like this can be carried out on an ongoing basis because according to him, learning English is very beneficial for younger siblings in elementary schools in order to increase their interest in learning English in order to expand their knowledge. Given that Sangeh Village is a tourist village in Badung Regency which has various tourism potentials, this activity is very suitable to be carried out.
